A bad year for climate science deniers!

Editor Rant image

2014 will be the hottest year on record (see NOAA*) - and this is in a year that, according to those who deny the basic physics and our understanding of climate change, wasn’t supposed to be particularly warm. Climate change deniers can't blame El Niño, because there hasn't been one this year so it will be interesting to see what contortions they go through this time to deny basic physics.

The reason for this being the hottest year on record is, of course, because of our continued emission of greenhouse gases and our governments (world wide) ostrich like inability to do anything constructive to address this issue - a particular thanks should go to the people of Australia who voted in a scientific ignoramous to lead their country.

The latest data paint a very clear picture: the Earth is warming: the oceans are warming, the land is warming, the atmosphere is warming, the ice is melting, and sea level is rising - and human activity is responsible.

Climate science deniers have had a bad year - but so have the rest of us because the polictical climate is not changing, only the real climate is.

Climate change deniers ignore the previous million data points, they're going to ignore this one too. I have some sympathy with the ignorance as such a hopeless "we're too late" picture has been painted that burying our heads in the sand feels like the only solution. More effort needs to be made to give clear solutions we can help with. Eating less meat?
